Do you love walking? Or maybe you hate it? Well either way, I want to motivate and encourage you walk more! Besides ALL of the health benefits there are already to get moving and walking. Did you know you can get paid to walk too? Believe it or not, there are apps that pay you to walk!
How amazing does that sound!? You can make extra money to do something you already are doing, or it can help encourage you to walk more so you can improve your health and earn at the same time! In a way, it could potentially be a nice passive income source!
Depending on the walking app or apps that you decide to use, will determine how you will be paid.
These apps can pay you in money, discounts or you can even choose to convert your steps into charity donations!
Now before we get into the list of apps that will pay you to walk, I would like to say that, you will NOT get rich from these apps, but they will be a nice supplement to help you out a little.
Top Apps That Pay You To Walk!
The first app that pays you to walk is sweatcoin! As the name suggests, you get paid in coins for sweating or taking steps!
The way this app works is that for every 2,000 steps you take, it converts them into “sweatcoins” which are a type of cryptocurrency that they created.
They have 2 tier levels for the amount of step you can earn from in a day. The first level is the free membership, which lets you convert 5,000 steps into 5 sweatcoins.
If you would like to earn more than that in a day, you will have to switch to their upgraded membership. This level will let you convert 10,000 steps into sweatcoins in a single day.
After you’ve accumulated enough sweatcoins, you can eventually exchange them for rewards or actual cash! The various rewards can change on a daily basis. So, if you don’t see any options you’re interested in, just wait it out for another day.
There’s also another option, after you earn 20,000 sweatcoins you can choose to exchange them for $1,000 to your PayPal account!
However, they also say it can take up to 18 months to reach this point and it can only be redeemed once per person.
So, it make take a while to get to 20,000 sweatcoins, but when you do get there, you’ll be able to earn $1,000 without doing anything extra! Sounds pretty sweet to me to walk and win money!
The only other aspect you have to watch out for with this app is, it will only track your steps if you walk outdoors since it uses your phone’s GPS. It also can tell if you’re walking or in a vehicle from it’s algorithm.
Now, let’s move onto the other apps like sweatcoin so you can get paid for walking!
The next walking app that pays you on the list is Achievement. You can earn money several ways with it. This app pays you to walk, run, bike, swim and do several other exercises it can track through the app.
You earn points through your exercises and by logging your food, sleep, weight, etc. and sharing your progress on twitter! In a single day, you can earn up to 80 points for exercises and 6 points for logging information.
For every 10,000 points you earn, they will pay you $10, or you can choose to donate your points to one of their charities.
It may take you a year to make just $30, BUT remember it’s a pretty hands off app, so you can just see it as free money too! You can also earn some extra cash doing surveys on health and fitness through the app.
3. Carrot (Canada)
If you’re living in Canada, Carrot is a fun, walk for money app! Similar to StepBet (#6), this Canadian app determines a daily step goal for you.
You simply sign up on the app and it will analyze your walking activity for a week to determine your daily step goal.
Once that’s done, you can start earning points to get paid for steps! You can earn your points by meeting your daily step goal, meeting it 5 out of 7 days of the week, called a “step up challenge” or by reaching your step goals together with a friend, called a “step together challenge”!
The points you earn can later be redeemed through various different platforms. Here are a few choices you have:
Here’s another app that pays you to walk, in a way. With GigWalk, you can get paid for doing certain gigs around where you live and earn money walking.
The app has a map that you use with red pins to see the gigs that are posted by GigWalk customers. To see what the gig is about, you simply click on the pin and it will give you instructions.
The activity for a certain gig can vary, but it could be something as simple as walking over to a retail shop and taking a picture of a product.
It’s similar to mystery shopping. It can help the retailers and companies get some research data through you!
So as you can see, gigs don’t have to be complicated and they can be done in only a few minutes. As far as payment goes, it varies depending on the customer’s gig. It can range from $3-$100 per gig!
To start making money with GigWalk, simply download the app, complete your profile and do some gigs around town!
5. Walgreens Balance Rewards
Yes, the big pharmacy store, Walgreens has a Balance Rewards program. You can sign up for it and use the Walgreens walking app for money!
The app will track your walking and activities which in turn can earn you Balance Reward points. In addition, you can also earn points by tracking your weight, sleep, blood pressure and more using other health apps.
This app will pay you 20 Balance Rewards points for every mile that you walk. However, the cap limit on the amount you can earn in a month is 1,000 Balance Rewards points.
The points can later be redeemed for coupons. 5,000 points will earn you a $5 coupon/discount towards your Walgreens shopping purchases!
To join the Walgreens Balance Rewards program, you simply download the Walgreens app and register. Or, you can go to Walgreens website and register online as well.
StepBet is an interesting walking money app. There’s some actual risk involved. Which I guess could be fun depending on if you like to gamble or not. But, you have to bet on yourself that you can reach your set fitness goals.
You can either reach your goals and get paid to walk or fall short of your goals and lose the amount of money you bet.
The app itself will determine your walking or step goals. They will be based on your current fitness level that it will track via your fitness tracker.
You start by downloading the StepBet app and signing up. From there, you connect a fitness tracker and it will calculate your goals. The goals will be meant for you to be challenged and get you out of your comfort zone.
Once the app displays your goals, you can join a game, which usually lasts for 6 weeks. When you join a game, you’ll also be required to place a bet on yourself, roughly $40. So for those 6 weeks, you have to reach your goals each week or else you may lose all your money.
But, if you do succeed and hit your goals, you’ll split the pot with all the money with the other winners!
This one will depend on how you would like to use money. It may not directly pay you any money, however, as the name suggests, you can benefit others or charities through walking.
Charity Miles is a great app to donate the money you earn from walking your miles without asking others to help with the donations!
You can support the charities of your choice by walking, running, cycling and other workouts. The app will use your phone’s GPS and sensors to track your miles.
Here are some of the 40 charities you can donate your money to:
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
- Habitat For Humanity
- Wounded Warrior Project
- World Wildlife Fund & many more
The only sort of drawback of this app compared to the other background apps that pay you to walk is that you have to track each workout on the app.
Well that concludes the list of some amazing apps that pay you to walk! The way you can maximize your earnings would be to sign up for as many walk for money apps as you can, so each step you take will earn you much more!
Hopefully, this post motivates you to get moving, go outside, be in nature and maybe even share the experience with a friend. If you already like walking, then this will one of the best hobbies for making money. As a bonus, you’ll be healthier, feel better and make some extra money or earn some rewards!
