You don’t always have to spend money necessarily to have fun! There are tons of ways to have fun without spending any money. If your bank account needs a break, then here are some great things to do on a no spend weekend that are still fun!
Start making your way down the list and make a note of the ones that interests you and try them this weekend!
I would also suggest going out of your comfort zone and taking a shot at one that doesn’t interest you at the moment. You may never know what it could turn into, you could even find a new passion and maybe even make money from it!

1. Be In Nature
This one is super easy, a great way to take a break from reality is to simply be in nature. And there’s many ways to do that.
You can start planting vegetables and fruits at home. You can go for a simple walk outside, preferably near trees and grass. Or if there’s a nice trail nearby you can go for a hike.
2. Go For A Bike Ride
Another fun idea for a no spend weekend is going for a bike ride. Especially in the summer time, not only will you get a nice breeze from riding your bike, you’ll also get your exercise in for the day.
3. Do Yoga
Need to increase your flexibility? Try doing some yoga poses! You can even build a strong core from this one. You’ll even relieve some stress from doing yoga.
4. Learn a new recipe
If you like adventure, then try a new recipe! Whether it’s cooking or baking, if you don’t worry too much about the end product, you’ll have lots of fun in the process!
5. Go on a picnic
This is also another great way to go outdoors and be in nature. You can spend a few hours at a picnic with your family or even alone and spend some much needed alone time!
6. Take surveys
A fun and a super easy idea for a no spend weekend is to take paid surveys online! There are many different sites you can sign up for to take surveys that pay you. Here are some of the best ones that I use to make a quick $100 or so!
7. Make goals
If you have a lot of work that needs to be done or you want to be super productive in general, then start setting goals for yourself. Whether it’s to improve your finances, or do better in your workplace or anything, setting a clear goal with steps on how you’ll reach it can help you get there much quicker!
8. Start a budget
If you’re looking to improve your finances like I mentioned then a great first step would be to start a budget. This will help you keep track of all your spending and make sure you stay on track for your goals as well.
9. Clean and organize
Now you may not think you want to clean or organize on a no spend weekend, but it’ll be super productive and you’ll feel really accomplished for the day! Get someone else with you and turn on some music while you clean or organize your house or car and you might even have some fun!
10. Donate clothes at goodwill
As part of organizing, you might find some clothes that don’t fit you or that you just don’t wear. So instead of uselessly keeping them around, donate them at your local goodwill store!
11. Have a garage sale
When you’re organizing and you even find some electronics, or tools or anything that you don’t necessarily need, then consider having a garage sale. You’ll get rid of a bunch of things you don’t need and you’ll make some money on the side!
12. Try a new hobby
Maybe you want something more fun, try looking into different hobbies you could do that don’t cost money. If you find a new interest you could even try pursuing it further as there are many great hobbies that make money!
13. Read a new book
When I was younger I actually hated reading, but now I realized it was because I was forced to read books that I wasn’t interested in when I was in school. If you choose a book that you find interesting it can actually be fun, I know, weird right. And you might learn a thing or two!
14. Watch Netflix
Or if you really don’t want to try reading a book, you can go for the more visual adventure/storytelling by watching a show or movie on Netflix.
15. Listen to podcasts
A great way to spend time in a car is to listen to podcasts! Of course me being into personal finance and all, one of my favorite podcasts is Side Hustle School. I always listen to an episode or more when I go for long car rides and it always gives me some inspiration!
16. Start a side hustle
Speaking of side hustles, finding a side hustle for yourself is an amazing idea for a no spend weekend! You not only won’t be spending any money, but you’ll find ways to make more! There are tons of different side hustles you can start, you just have to take the first step.
17. Go to the beach or park
If you want to relax a little more and rejuvenate, then go to the beach or a park nearby. The sound of the waves and your feet in the sand can be super relaxing as well as the nature sounds in the park!
One of the best things to do on a no spend weekend is to go volunteer! Give back to your society, help out other people and build up your good karma points. Volunteering will definitely make someone else’s day if not yours.
19. Start a blog
A fun way to express yourself or serve as an outlet for you is to blog! You can start a blog as a hobby or you can even turn it into a full time business if you’re serious like so many others do!
20. Have a game night
If you want to spend more time with your friends or family, then have a game night! My friends and I have one every month or so and they’re really fun! You can have food and drinks and just play video games or board games with each other.
21. Track your net worth

22. Refinance your student loans
Again if you’re serious about improving your finances, one of the main steps to take is to find ways to save more money. A great way to reduce your interest fees is to refinance your student loans. Depending on how you view the definition of fun, this may differ for you. If I go for a no spend weekend and find ways to save money or make more money, then I’ll be happy and be having fun! Those can be some easy ways to start saving money.
Most people don’t realize it, but they might be overspending a lot on food. So try to be more conscious and see how you can save more money on groceries, look for ways to get cashback deals, and save money on online purchases.
25. Walk Your Dog
Don’t forget your pets need exercise too! Take your dog on a walk and maybe you’ll have an adventure with your pet. Or better yet start walking other people’s dogs and make money from it using Rover!
26. Go To A Free Museum
A great learning, but also fun idea for a no spend weekend is going to a free museum. Some cities will have free museums on the weekends or sometimes on the first Saturday of each month. See if there are any museums you can visit around where you live!
27. Watch YouTube videos
I always get sucked into YouTube videos, which could be a good or bad thing depending on what type of videos I’m watching. Try looking up some topics that interest you and watch some videos. If you watch videos that can help with your finances, health or just improving yourself in other ways then that’s a huge plus!
28. Build an emergency fund
This may not seem fun at first, but once you start building an emergency fund, it’ll get funner seeing the progress that you’re making and watching the money grow overtime. But if you make one, don’t be tempted to use it for fun, remember, it’s an emergency fund not a fun fund!
29. Start a passive income source
Have you ever wondered how you could make money while you sleep? Well there are a ton of people doing this already.
You might be surprised at how they make money sleeping, but they were able to successfully generate a passive income source and now they collect money even as they sleep!
Alternatively, you could even look at apps where you get paid for walking, which could be a fun, semi-passive income source too.
30. Learn to meditate
One of the best things you can do on a no spend weekend, in my opinion, is to remove distractions and relieve some stress by meditating. You’ll allow you brain and mind to rest and recoup from all the noise of everyday life and almost instantly feel much better.
