If you’re looking to do one of the following from the list below, then these side hustles are for you!
Reasons to start a side hustle:
- Pay off debt (college, mortgage, etc.)
- Cover various other expenses
- Need money to invest
- Any other reasons to have more money in your pocket
Whatever your reason might be to start a side hustle, these 10 ideas will get you started and get your creative juices flowing! You can do these on the weekends, when you get off of work or on holidays if you feel like being productive.
So let’s get into it and look at 10 different side hustles you can start implementing today to make more money in 2018!
10 Side Hustles to Start Today:
1. Test Websites
You simply visit the website you will be testing and speak into your microphone and express your thoughts and opinions of the website.
The testing can be done using your laptop, smartphone or tablet, because the user interface of those websites will be different on various platforms.
2. Sell crafts on Etsy
If you like or are good at making artsy crafts then you can make money from them. You can open up an Etsy shop and put up pictures of your work, a description and the price.
This side hustle has a huge potential if your products get popular and you can make enough to meet the demands. Just don’t forget to consider expenses such as costs of materials and labor when pricing your artwork.
3. Take Surveys
A simple side hustle is surveys! If you don’t want to move around and wanna make money from your couch then you can get paid for taking surveys. Several different companies want people’s opinions and will pay you to take surveys.
The surveys can range from a few mins to maybe even 45 minutes or more, but you will be compensated different amounts depending on the length of the survey.
You can signup for websites like the ones below and if you do surveys for all of them from time to time, you will see the money adding up! Some even have their own apps so you can make money from your phone.
4. Sell old stuff (live garage sale/online garage sale) Craigslist or Ebay
If you have a lot of random stuff around that you don’t necessarily need or want anymore, then you can start by just finding those items and selling them. You can have a live garage sale in front of your house and sell the items to neighbors nearby.
Another interesting item you can sell to make money from is scrap metal!
Or, you can host an “online garage sale” by listing them for sale on Craigslist or Ebay. You can sell your old electronics or spare parts, old furniture, appliances, fitness equipment, musical instruments and the list goes on. This way you’ll declutter your home and make some extra cash from it!
5. Mow Lawns
Another easy side hustle to start is mowing lawns. Now you might think this is more for teenagers but literally anyone can do this. There are people everyday that need that lawns mowed and not enough teenagers or even just other people that are doing it. Which means more opportunity for you!
Start by asking around your neighborhood if anyone wants their lawn mowed. If you already have a lawn mower you don’t even have any expenses, you don’t have to go out and purchase one. You can charge a fixed rate for the lawns depending on the sizes and do this on the weekends.
6. Drive people around (Uber or Lyft)
Another one of easy side hustles is getting paid to drive people around! You can sign up for Uber or Lyft and once you’re approved you can start making money by giving people rides.
If you have some free time or you’re going to any stores or anything you can just log on and see if anyone needs a ride nearby to where you’re going.
This can be great if you live in a big city or near a busy airport or just where there might be a high demand and low supply of Uber or Lyft drivers.
Your only expense for this side hustle will be gasoline for your car. So, if you have a hybrid, electric or just a really efficient car your profits can be higher!
7. Be a Freelancer on Fiverr
This is another one of those side hustles that will make you money if you have some skills. If you’re good at graphic designs, such as making logos, or you want to provide a proofreading service because you’re good at writing, then you can list those services up on fiverr.
You’ll net $4 per job but as you get better Fiverr will allow you to add more side gigs and set your own price up to a certain limit. You may think it’s not much but it can add up pretty quickly.
So, if someone needs the service that you’re providing, then they can simply pay you the fee and you just work your magic for them.
8. Be a Petsitter
Petsitting is also one of those side hustles anyone, even teenagers can start. It’ll be even funner if you already love animals! You can sign up for Rover where you set up your profile, describe what services you offer and your availability and price.
When someone is interested in your service, they can message you and if you’re up for the task you can go and petsit for them and get paid. This can be super easy to make some extra cash and you can do this after work or school and on the weekends.
9. Do Tasks on Taskrabbit
This is a unique side hustle I just recently discovered. It’s called Taskrabbit, you basically get paid to do some chores or random tasks for people. They can range from a wide variety of tasks but you can just apply to whichever ones you feel comfortable with.
It can be tasks as simple as getting someone’s groceries or delivering food from a restaurant. As with all side hustles though, the more you work the more you will get paid!
10. Rent out stuff (House, Room, Car)
If you’re comfortable with other people using your stuff, then you should consider renting out your house or a room or even your car. You can put up a listing on Airbnb to let people know you have living space available for rent.
If you’re going on a vacation you can rent out your house or apartment for that duration. And if you would like to rent out your car to people you can use a service called Turo. You can do this when you’re on campus if you’re a college student or just whenever you won’t need your car for a few hours.

If you spend less, save more and invest all together, they can serve as a side hustle. Here are a few ways to do that:
If you get a Starbucks coffee everyday at school or at work, try making your own coffee at home, or get some from a place that doesn’t sell it for $5 a cup. If you eat out a lot, start cooking. Just small simple actions like these will help you spend less and save instead.
This is a relatively new app on the U.S. market. Drop will get you rewards for shopping with your linked cards at 5 of your selected favorite stores or brands. These rewards are in points which can later be redeemed for gift cards.

If you haven’t heard of Ebates, then you should definitely want to give this website a go. It offers a BIG amount of cashback deals at a LOT of big retailers like Nike, Amazon, Macy’s and much more. Plus, if you sign up using this link, you will get a $10 bonus after you sign up and start using Ebates! You can really save a lot when you shop with this website.
In addition to Ebates, Ibotta is a similar cashback platform. You save cashback deals at different stores you think you might be shopping at. Then, once you have purchased an item from one of the stores you added a cashback offer for, you simply take a picture of your receipt and you will receive your cash back all on the app!

Now that you will spend less money, use the cashback deals that you earn and save them! Don’t be tempted to spend that as well. You can put that money in your savings account and simply watch it grow.
Once you have a good amount in your savings, you can start investing! You can invest in stocks, index funds, real estate and more. If you do it right, your money can make money for you! Plus, it’s kinda fun.
